Earlier this year, both Imad Wasim and Mohammad Amir made their return to international cricket, coming out of retirement to make themselves available for the ICC T20 World Cup 2024. The tournament, held in June across the West Indies and the United States, saw both veterans trying to contribute to Pakistan’s cause.

Wasim, in his three matches, managed to claim three wickets at an average of 14.66 but struggled with the bat, scoring only 19 runs in two appearances. On the other hand, Amir was Pakistan’s standout bowler in the tournament, taking seven wickets in four games at an impressive average of 10.28. Despite their efforts, Pakistan’s campaign was cut short as they were eliminated in the group stage. Key losses against the United States and their arch-rivals India sealed their fate.
Following the T20 World Cup, both players were excluded from Pakistan’s white-ball assignments, which led them to step away from international cricket. In light of their retirements, Sarfaraz Ahmed, former captain of Pakistan, shared heartfelt wishes on his official Instagram.
